The founding figure of Ahobilla Mutt Sri AthiVan Satakopa Yathindra Mahadesikar is inextricably linked to Azhwar Thirunagari by his Sevai to Sri Nammazhwar. Sri AthiVAn Satakopa Yathindra Mahadesikar right after he assumed Sanyasa traveled to Azhwar Thirunagari to do sevai to Sri Nammazhwar but to his dismay the consecrated vigraham(archaa Vigraham) of the saint was no where to be found. Distressed at the loss of Nammalwar at his shrine, Sri SaThakOpa Jeeyar repeatedly recited Madurakavi's Paasurams, when Nammalwar appeared before him in a vision, told him that his idol lay in the bed of a river adjacent to a ravine and that the Jeeyar should recover and restore it. It so happened that the Pandya King of that place was on a hunting trip around those parts and the Jeeyar's divine personality instantly attracted him. He fell at the Jeeyar's feet and sought the Jeeyar's grace to be initiated into Vaishnavism. The Jeeyar blessed him . Accompanied by this king, the Jeeyar went to the spot of the difficult terrain and prayed to Nammalwar to help him ;Lo and behold ! The archa vigraham of Swamy NammAzhwAr slowly emerged from the river bed and settled on the outstretched arms of the Jeeyar.
